FREMONT, CA: The global provider for commercial-grade tablet solutions, Glory Star, is smoothing the check-in process for Willapa Medical Clinic, previously Pacific Family Health Center. The rural doctors’ office chose the patent-pending intelligent self-service TAURI Temperature Check Tablet to swiftly scan incoming patients and guests for fevers to limit exposure to possible cases of COVID-19.

“As a medical provider, we have to see patients who are potentially infected—whether it’s with COVID-19 or the flu — while protecting those waiting to be seen,” said Mary McAllister, rural health clinic manager, Willapa Medical Clinic. “Before, we were reaching through the registration window to take everyone’s temperature with a tympanic thermometer. It was cumbersome and required a great deal of contact. With TAURI, they can scan themselves right when they walk in. This has sped up our registration process and made it easier for our aging patients who we sometimes struggled to reach.”

TAURI syndicates Glory Star’s expertise in creating and programming commercial-grade tablet solutions with the principal sensor hardware to make a fast, worry-free, and healthy experience. Patients walk up to the tablet, and it wisely detects their faces and scans their body temperature from up to 3 feet away. Results are sent in less than three seconds. The tablet’s sensor and body heat algorithm permits temperature precision with a tolerance of +/- 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit (+/- 0.3 degrees Celsius) and has a refresh rate of 64Hz.

For Willapa Medical Clinic, the tablet removes the need for another person to carry out scans and avoids any skin contact. Therefore, the health provider can evaluate the next steps for check-in quickly. When a temperature is spotted, staff will hear the unique chime that allows them to know to transfer the patient into an exam room instantly. The device can be programmed with a special message to specify what patients should do next, like, “Please follow a staff member to an exam room.” This feature helps to limit cross-infection in waiting rooms.

Additionally, organizations have the choice to use TAURI to detect if a person is wearing a mask and simultaneously issue an on-screen reminder. Every day, upon beginning and ending their shifts, the staff is required to record their temperatures. Employing the tablet’s facial recognition feature, the medical workers can scan and have their temperatures documented, assisting them to stay in compliance with health and safety COVID-19 rules.

“We are incredibly thankful to the dedication and hard work of today’s medical providers and staff,” said Cindy Cheung, the chief commercial officer of Glory Star. “TAURI was created for facilities such as Willapa Medical Clinic where, before doctors can begin their assessment, receptionists need to perform the initial intake. It can give them the information they need quickly and without contact so they can determine the best course of action to limit any potential exposure to COVID-19 and other viruses.”
